How to Store Honey So It Never Spoils
By Sweetfields Editorial • 4 min read
Honey is naturally antimicrobial and essentially non-perishable when stored properly. Here’s how to keep it tasting great for years.
Use airtight containers
Keep moisture out to prevent fermentation. Glass jars with tight lids are best.
Store at room temperature
A cool, dry cupboard is ideal. Avoid the fridge—it accelerates crystallization.
Avoid odors and direct sunlight
Honey absorbs smells. Keep away from spices and cleaning products, and shield from light.
Crystallized? It’s natural.
Warm the jar gently in a water bath (below 104°F / 40°C) to re-liquefy without damaging enzymes.
Reminder: Not for infants under one year.
